Charlemagne also known as Charles the Great was King of the Franks between 768 and 814. He was also emperor of the west between 800 and 814. Charlemagne had many accomplishments, he founded the Holy Roman Empire, he strengthened European economic and political life, and encouraged the cultural revival known as the Carolingian Renaissance. Europe had a unique civilization different from Rome and other ancient empires, Charlemagne's rule gave them that push.
