A monk named Einhard wrote the biography on Charlemagne shortly after Charlemagne's death. The intended audience was anyone curious about Charlemagne's life. The style it was written it can be for young curious children to even adults who want to know about him. Einhard was a monk who had lived in the court with Charles. I believe Einhard wrote this because he looked up to Charlemagne and wanted everyone to know of why he was such an amazing ruler. Two things I felt was important in this biography was they way he said he always carried a sword about his side and how he described his features from his eye to his feet. He showed Charlemagne had a brutal side ready for war. The description of his body showed he was actually a rather big man and can give you a visual of him other then pictures. A question I still have about this document is why did Einhard admire Charlemagne enough to write a biography on him?
